RACE NOTES: Italy’s Annabella Spropparo took a 20 second lead on the fourth lap of six laps. The Be One rider left the course in tears. She was back in the race and finished fifth, maintaining third place overall. Many claimed Stopparo didn’t have the materials to fix the flat. However, no formal protest was filed.

It is illegal to receive assistance from outsiders in cross-country races. The talk is that Annabella would have won if someone had helped her. Stropparo was disqualified last year because she received outside assistance.

Jimena Florit, last weeks NORBA national champion, was injured and could not finish the race.

PRO MEN

Many of the Euros at the front suffered mechanical problems on the rocky course, just like the women’s race. Only 36 riders, including three Americans, were able finish the race on the lead lap.

Roland Green just didn’t have the legs for victory in front of his hometown crowd. Green started to fade after the fourth lap, even though he was running second with Christophe Dupouey and Bart Brentjens. Roland fought through the final three laps to finish the race on the podium. Green later stated that he was surprised by the fact that so many people didn’t catch him.
