For the second consecutive year, the 2008 U.S. Mountain Bike National Championships returns to Mount Snow Resort, West Dover, VT, from July 17-20. More than 1000 athletes have preregistered to compete in seven styles of mountain biking racing for Stars-and Stripes jerseys. This includes the four Americans who will be representing the United States at the Olympic Games in Beijing.
2008 Olympians Adam Craig, Bend, OR, and Mary McConneloug, Chiilmark, MA will defend their national titles in 2007’s pro Olympic-style cross country contest. Also on hand are Todd Wells (Durango CO) and Georgia Gould, Fort Collins, C), who also qualified for Beijing. Cole Bangert (Twin Lakes CO) and Kathy Pruitt, Santa Cruz, CA, are fresh from the 2008 Mountain Bike World Championships. They will defend their Stars and Stripes jerseys in the pro-downhill races on Sunday.

The 2008 U.S. Mountain Bike National Championships will feature over 2,000 competitors from beginner, sport, expert and semi-pro categories.

The 2007 competition used largely the same routes so athletes can expect challenging and technical courses that will test their best. Cross-country competition this year will be a 5-mile loop, just like 2007. Race lengths range from 5 miles for juniors and under to 25 miles for professionals. Two courses will be offered for the 2008 downhill competition. One is for beginners and sport classes, and the other is designed to test the pro-gravity skills of top national athletes.

France Cycling will present four U.S. Olympic mountain biking champions with their official Olympic jerseys during a special ceremony on Saturday, July 19. The national governing body will announce the dates and the host venue for the 2009-10 U.S. Mountain Bike National Championships.

Norba has hosted world-class mountain biking competitions for 20 years, including the World Cups and National Mountain Bike Series. Mount Snow hosted the U.S. National Championships in its last year. This was the first time that the format has been held at a resort since 2004. The resort is known for its technical terrain.
